Advice to medical colleagues.

When we are taking care of a child going for surgery, never tell the child that ‘they won’t feel anything, that they will be put to sleep.’ Some children might have a ‘Tommy,’ a cat or a dog who was taken away ‘to put to sleep’ and who never came back. Children are afraid of the use of this phrase. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
